Playlist: Show #6 "Lalo Schifrin/Future Lounge"

30 June 1998, 10:30pm to 12:30am

On this show, we explored some of the music of Lalo Schifrin, the prolific Argentinian-born composer/arranger who started out with Xavier Cugat and Dizzy Gillespie, before moving to film and television scores (including his best known work, the "Mission: Impossible" theme). He is still active to this day, acting as the principle arranger for the Three Tenors among other projects.

For more information on Lalo Schifrin, there are a variety of fan-run sites as well as an official site:

When we reached Lalo's 1976 disco album "Black Widow", we were sucked into a '70s vortex from which none could escape. We had to sample a collection of modern classics reinterpreted for the Moog synthesizer as well as the soundtracks from 70's era german soft-core porn films.

Remember, disco is the lounge music of the future!
